In the global social community, America may be the land of dreams, potential and power but it's also the "butt" of endless fat jokes.  During my mocha weight gain, I would feel the sting from backhanded words of comfort such as "don't worry, in American standards you're a beanpole." Sadly, those words somewhat ring true. Modesty and moderation aren't exactly the traits of what this country is known for and the boisterous indulgence is showing in our physique.  America is a big place and your cultural surroundings do have an influence in your lifestyle decisions, ultimately affecting your weight.

The University of Washington "found that researchers were able to predict the prevalence of obesity simply by looking at zip codes. Among other things, thinner communities had better access to exercise facilities and healthy foods, such as fresh fruits and vegetables." (Quality Health)
