Sports Sugar and The Birthday Weekend Kickoff

I've been telling people that I'm 30 since I've been 25.  Every one says that age to women is a fickle subject but it never really bothered me so, maybe when I'm 50 and miss my pre-gravity aged body I'll cry,  but till then, I won't let the quickly ascending numbers bother me.

For those that have been reading my blog since last year, you know that I actually call it my birthmonth rather than day.  Just to re-cap, this all started when I was just a kid realizing that none of the other kids could celebrate my birthday because it was Mother's day weekend, and yes my birthday almost always falls on Mother's day weekend.  So since mom's always take precedence, and I never really got to do much to celebrate aging as a kid AAANNND rather than make birthdays a sorrowful experience like we're all anticipating death, I turned it into a tradition to celebrate all month long.

Note: Kids, forget what they tell you about aging, and how the best times of your life are when you're young, in fact you get to do much cooler things as you get older.

In all honesty, I made absolutely no plans this year for May, which is bizarre because usually I have everything planned by March as to where we'll all be jet setting to.  My "birthmonth" is usually just an excuse to make friends step aside from their busy schedule and actually get together so we can catch up and have some fun.  This year, without intention, things kind of just fell into place.  For personal reasons, I took off to Edmonton, but while there I also got to see family and enjoy quality time with them while receiving birthday graces.  (Yes presents too :P )

This weekend would classify as my official birthday weekend and I'm meeting a friend in L.A who's visiting from New York.  I haven't seen this dirty monkey in years, so it'll be quite epic to hang out with him and see what kind of  ruckus we get into.  Not to mention this weekend is UFC 113!!!!!! The rematch of the century between Lyoto Machida and Shogun Rua.  I've had many debates with my pals on this one, and it looks like I could be the standalone fan that still believes he won the last fight and is routing for him in this fight.
I will agree that Shogun was incredibly badass in Pride and I do respect him with much awe as a fighter, especially coming back so hard after two knee surgeries, but I just don't think in 104 it was clear enough for him to win the title.  It was a close fight, but I think Machida had many accurate hits that most of the fans missed. I'm trying to locate the original screen shots I saw in a forum, that showed many of Shogun's kicks being countered with a punch. Here's how the judges scored the fight.
Marcos Rosales (Machida 48-47):
1stRound: Machida 10-9
2ndRound: Machida 10-9
3rdRound: Machida 10-9
4thRound: Rua 10-9
5thRound: Rua 10-9

Cecil Peoples (Machida 48-47):
1stRound: Machida 10-9
2ndRound: Machida 10-9
3rdRound: Machida 10-9
4thRound: Rua 10-9
5thRound: Rua 10-9

Nelson Hamilton (Machida 48-47):
1stRound: Rua 10-9
2ndRound: Machida 10-9
3rdRound: Machida 10-9
4thRound: Machida 10-9
5thRound: Rua 10-9
Since I received a blaze of fury for using stars on last UFC's picks,  I figured the blood splatters would be more appropriate this time around.  So as follows, Machida, Daley, Stout, Kimbo, Belcher (simply because I get a kick out of seeing the Jay Leno version of Johnny Cash on hims arm), and Doerksen.  It's a pretty damned good fight card, and if you had asked me prior to last season of TUF if I'd every pick Slice for anything, I would have said no, but watching him on TUF made me change over a new leaf on what I think of the guy.

I'm about 2 episodes behind on TUF, but so far man this season has been packed full of awesomeness.  So this week it's L.A, then next it's a birthday downtown slumber party at my gay pal's uber home, then it's off to Vegas for UFC Fan expo.  Tickets are still on Sale, any of you going?

It's been a rollercoaster this month and it's not over yet.  So go Machida and looking forward to an epic fight card.  To watch TUF episodes online go here
